On Sunday 21 July, Regent Street, London W1, will be unveiling a 100m catwalk in association with the V&A for the third consecutive traffic-free Sunday this month as part of the “Summer Streets” programme, in partnership with the Mayor of London. The public are invited to take part in the six catwalk shows throughout the day, each with a different theme: Streetwear, Sportswear, Elegance, Wedding, Sunday Best and Anything Goes. The catwalk shows will be stage managed and accompanied by music to offer budding models and fashion enthusiasts the opportunity to show off their own style and experience being part of a professional runway show. Everyone who joins in will be photographed on the catwalk and can choose an image to be sent direct to their social media page. There will also be a pop up exhibition of stills photographs from the catwalk every hour in the Photographers Gallery. Each show will be watched by a panel of judges from the fashion industry, chaired by Damien Whitmore, Director of Programming at the V&A. The best five looks from each show will be given a goody bag of prizes. Damien Whitmore, V&A Director of Programming, said: “Every day, each of us designs the way we look. The Street is My Catwalk gives people the chance to show their style to the world and experience taking part in a professional fashion show. In London, style comes from the street so we wanted to reflect that. We invite everybody to come and show off their best looks.” Summer Streets makes the area a more pleasant experience for residents and visitors alike, enhancing the environment for shoppers and sightseers to enjoy this central location in the heart of the West End. The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: 'Summer Streets is a fabulous way to experience one of the country's finest retail destinations every Sunday in July. With its exceptional Nash design few areas can rival the rich history of Regent Street. We want to make shopping in the flagship stores and eating in the nearby restaurants even more enjoyable, turning a visit to this world-renowned street in to the ultimate summer shopping treat.” Sunday 28 July will mark the final traffic-free Sunday where the street will be transformed with a garden theme in line with the focus on encouraging green living in London.
