Rui Costa finishes in General Classification top 10, whilst Modolo records stage victory Sunday, 6 August 2017, United Arab Emirates: UAE Team Emirates’ riders produced a series of strong performances at the Tour of Poland, with Portuguese rider Rui Costa finishing in the General Classification top 10, whilst teammate Sacha Modolo notched up a stage victory. Making his first appearance for UAE Team Emirates since the Tour of Switzerland in June, Rui Costa was in fine form and looked to improve as the Tour progressed, with two top ten finishes in the final two stages (stage 6 - 4th and stage 7 - 10th). Italian Sacha Modolo was also in inspiring form, taking the victory in stage two and a top five finish on stage four. Commenting on his top 10 finish, Rui Coast said: ““For the entire Tour of Poland, there was a very high level of competition and there was very little difference in the final classification, which shows how fierce the competition was. I concentrated on using all of my strength and managed to remain among the first ten riders in the classification. I was coming off a high altitude training camp and my return to racing has been satisfying. I’m optimistic and looking forward to upcoming events.” Sports Manager Orlando Maini, who led the squad with his colleague Daniele Righi, commeneted: “We scored one stage win with Modolo and we were always there in the higher ranks for every stage, whilst Rui Costa finished in the general classification’s top 10. Considering that all our riders who participated in the Tour of Poland were returning from some time off from racing, we are satisfied with the results.” Next up for UAE Team Emirates’ riders is the Binck Bank Tour - formerly known as the Eneco Tour. The race, which takes in some of the routes featured in the likes of Amstel Gold Race, Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Tour of Flanders, gets under way on Monday 7 August in Breda (Ndl) and will end on Sunday 13 August in Geraardsbergen (Bel).
