Dubai, UAE, April 3, 2016: Sometimes, all you need is love. That’s what got Lamya Abedin when she set out to design a unique couture collection of evening dresses for her debut appearance at the Arab Fashion Week in Dubai. “I have always been excited and proud to represent my country at global fashion platforms. Be it dressing numerous international fashion personalities like Guiliana Rancic, Kimora Lee Simmons, Nicole Richie, Jada and Willow Smith and teenage Disney sensation Laura Marano or exploring transnational fashion weeks, it has been my pride and joy to style the abaya in a truly universal light. It’s great to be associated with the Arab Fashion Week, which sets the stage for international talent and shines the spotlight on design, fashion, couture and art. I’m delighted to be participating with my very first collection of evening dresses and glamorous gowns at a group catwalk show with an international team of fashion aficionados,” says Lamya, adding finishing touches to her couture pieces. An ode to timeless love stories, Lamya has put together a luxurious, dreamy assortment of dresses and gowns that is sure to allure every romantic fashion personality. “Be it the fables I heard from my grandmother about Laila and Majnu (a love story that originated as poetry in ancient Arabia), the tragic tale of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet or the iconic fashion moments of Scarlett O’Hara in the romantic classic Gone with the Wind, I have always found myself intrigued by love stories. My fondness for tales of love found great resonance with my own romantic fashion persona. Florals and chintz, ruffles and pleats, lace and tulle are just a few of the feminine, romantic details I’ve brought on to my latest collection. I’ve played up the glamour quotient with jacquards and embroidery, to give the girlish charm of romantic styling a more mature and dramatic spin,” says Lamya. The collection shows off romance across the years. You will find free-flowing georgettes, blossom prints and lace, interspersed with richer textures, luxurious silks, velvets and elaborate dual embroideries. Ostrich feather finish, decorative lace, double damask weaves, brocade fabrics, whalebone styles, high-waisted empire lines and jacquard techniques will be seen through the collection. Dainty ditsy prints, elaborate baroque florals and intricate Toile de Jouy styles play up the feminine charm typical of the romantic era. The intentional rawness of some floral prints also lends Lamya’s latest creations an artisan style that is slated to be big this season. Along with the dresses and evening gowns, Lamya also displays an array of bridal dresses. True to the romantic style the bridal wear emphasizes flowing shapes, layers of lace, and subtle embellishments and embroidery. Lamya’s bridal wear is always bespoke; custom-made to tell the love story of the blushing bride who will adorn the piece. No two dresses will ever be the same, just like each love story has a personal touch. As always, Lamya stays true to her creative sensibility by showcasing a huge variety of styles within her collection. Be ready to take in the eye-catching richness and glamour as well as some graceful objects of desire that she will be showing at the Arab Fashion Week, March 16 to 19, 2016.
