Dubai, October 25, 2015: Early 2015 marked the comeback of one of the French athletic brand’s historic and most iconic models, the Arthur Ashe. After the collaboration with Paris concept store Colette and the French-made version released early in the year, le coq sportif issued a white leather version identical to the ‘60s model that combines authenticity and modernity. Just like the original model, this season, the Arthur Ashe comes in a white leather version with a discreet touch of navy blue, red or bronze at the heel. The model’s signature has gold accents to match the rivets. The tongue features tricolor trim, a timeless trademark of the brand. The shoe’s background The Arthur Ashe model first appeared in 1964. At the time, shoe brands regularly named their best models after one of their ambassadors. With lines inspired by tennis and an elegant design, Arthur Ashe was the obvious choice. Developed to fit with professional tennis requirements and in line with Arthur Ashe’s individual needs, this shoe combines comfort, lightness and flexibility to fit to both hard and clay fields. The sole is developed with the rigours of the sport of tennis in mind, while the « Aerotop » tongue allows for increased breathability. These functional details are perfectly balanced by the clean and elegant design. Le coq sportif’s Arthur Ashe gradually evolved up until the early 1980s, when the shoe reached its most elegant form. At the time, there were two different models called the Ashe Prestige and the Arthur Ashe. As running shoes and colorful designs came into fashion in the mid-’80s, these models faded away into the brand’s archives in the early 1990s, only to re-emerge in the early 2010s when the brand re-issued these iconic models.
