The most important government social media event returns to Dubai

14 September 2015 - Dubai, United Arab Emirates: The 4th GCC Government Social Media Summit is to take place in Sofitel Dubai Downtown on 16 - 17 September 2015. Considered to be the most important, educational and business-driven social media platform for the government sector in the MENA region, the summit will be held under the theme ‘Leveraging social networks to drive government innovation and create smart cities’.

Leaders from international and regional government departments, and social media experts will discuss innovations in social media techniques against the backdrop of its increased importance in government communications. The use of social media by governments has steadily grown over the recent years in the GCC region with some of the highest social media platform penetration rates in the world. The result of which has meant that the MENA governments are in a unique position to leverage the citizen social engagement in their communications and service delivery strategies.

Speakers in this year’s summit include HE Dr. Saeed Al Dhaheri, Chairman of the Board, Smartworld; Dr. Aisha Bin Bishr, Assistant Director General, The Executive Office, Government of Dubai; Sheikha Al Maskari, Chief Corporate Officer, UAE Space Agency; Colonel Khalid Nasser Alrazooqi, General Director Smart Services Department, Dubai Police; Rajai El Khadem, Head of Governments and Alliances, Linkedin; Taiseer Almofarrej, Director Media Centre, Ministry of Labour & Human Resources Development Fund, Saudi Arabia; Don Jacobson, Information Technologies Business Partner, City of Las Vegas, USA and many others.

Sheikha Al Maskari of the UAE Space Agency said:  “In recent years, the importance of social media has been firmly at the top of the governments’ communication agendas in the GCC. Leaders and government departments across the region are continuously developing new innovative ways in using social media to better communicate, educate and keep information flow with the public and key audiences.”

“Platforms such as the GCC Government Social Media Summit provide the perfect opportunity to connect the key decision makers, global leaders, communication professionals and social media influencers to share expertise and discuss how to better utilise the power of social media,” added Al Maskari.

Following on from the success of last year there will be eight interactive social media workshops that will tackle more service-driven sectors. Each will benefit from insightful and practical social media training. The two-day workshops include: Social Media for local and federal government, healthcare, financial services, human resources, education, foreign affairs, and defence. Carefully selected world class facilitators will be addressing key challenges pertinent to each sector within the social media context.

The two-day knowledge sharing platform will start from 8am.
