Youth organisation spreads joy during Eid

Eid is a joyous occasion which is best spent with family and friends. However, there are many who live and work far away from their loved ones and festive occasions , such as these , are just another day of routine for them. While the rest of the city is enveloped in celebrations , these groups of people , conscientously go about their daily jobs , toiling to keep our city clean and beautiful. They serve one and all with a smile whether it is summer or winter.

Youth organisation , Green Hope , which works for sustainable development and social upliftment, decided that the best way to celebrate Eid was to bring some joy to these heroes of our city. We saved our pocket money and used it to buy gift packs as “Eidhis”.
We were supported in our endeavor by Panache’ International who supplied us with bio-degradable bowls. We then packed them into reusable , eco-friendly  bags and visited Al Tamimi Engineering’s labour camp in Jebel Ali where we handed them out to the delighted workers, explaining at the same time to them, to shun plastic and use eco-friendly bags like the ones which we were handing to them. We were able to reach out to over 140 workers and we are planning more such handouts in the near future.

Their smiles and thank you's were the best Eid presents that we could have received. What we did was a small effort that brought workers so much cheer.

The UN Millennium Development Goals also known as the MDGs are set to end in September this year. Yet the most important of these goals, which deals with poverty alleviation, remains beyond our reach. As a youth organisation , we feel that we, the “Future Generations” have a defining role to play in creating a sustainable future free from poverty, disease and inequality. Green Hope has now grown internationally to over 1000 members  and our constant endeavor is to engage civil society to promote sustainable consumption so that our planet's finite resources can be utilized for the benefit of all. The post 2015 agenda must be able to realise a life of dignity for all and this is our goal.

Green Hope would like to thank Al Tamimi Engineering and Panache’ International for their support in this noble venture.
