Emirati youth revolutionizing Shipping containers to sustainable bus stops

Dubai UAE, March 23, 2015: As first of its kind in the region, Carbon Ambassador Program launched a project transforming 20' marine shipping containers into environmentally friendly and sustainable bus stop. An Emirati group of students came with this innovative move who enrolled the Carbon Ambassador Program. 

'Our smart government encourages the trend towards sustainable programs and continuously supports the students to unleash innovations in renewable energy and sustainability. We are confident that the primary construction phase will go without any significant obstacles, as the students enrolled the program are at high profile of professionalism and innovation deserve praise and appreciation', commented Eng. Waleed Salman, Chairman of Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence. 

The program is a professional one, which aims at catalyzing youth participation, supported by Dubai Carbon and cooperation with Dubai Electricity & Water Authority. The initiative has also the seal of approval from United Nations Development and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their valuable efforts to deploy sustainable energy culture. 

The program is a voluntary effort conducted by Emirati university students in fields related to sustainability and green economy, as it provides them with necessary training and capacity building so as to shape the future leaders in sustainability and renewable energy. 

DP world has greatly contributed in the project by offering the important element of the project, which represented in the used 20' containers. 'We have backed this initiative from the outset, and desirous to see the result of such a brilliant team to become true. Our significant support for Carbon Ambassador Program is to providing four containers to be transformed into sustainable bus stops.' said Nabil Butti, General Manager, DP World, Safety & EnvironmentDept, commenting on such DP World support.

Consolidated Contractors Company will lead construction of the bus stops, and will actively engage to make the project successful. 'We are ready to begin construction work of the bus stops and expecting a big-time momentum will be made by this inspired project, in a manner rings the bell towards such products in the transportation field. We are waiting to see the results of our work on reality, so as to present such bus stop to Dubai inhabitants' clarified Mr. Mamouni Villaparamil, Corporate social responsibility In-charge.

These bus stops are characterized with strong material built and ability to effectively serve its purpose. Through the project, the containers will be utilized and wastes will be reused in sustainable projects.
