Fiji Ambassador Visits Ajman University

Ajman, U.A.E: Mr. Robin Nair, Fiji ambassador to the UAE paid an amicable visit to Ajman University of Science & Technology. He was received by Mr. Osama Saeed Salman, Vice President of Ajman University. Mr. Osama welcomed the Fiji ambassador in his office at Ajman campus and thanked him for the visit, noting that Ajman University is keen on building strong relations with all embassies and cultural attaches in the country, in order to build ensure effective academic cooperation and offer better student support and follow up. The Fiji embassy in the UAE is based in Abu Dhabi and is Fiji's  main consular representation in the Middle East.

Also attending were Dr. Zein Al Abiddin Rizk, director of academic and intellectual affairs; Dr. Ahmed Ankit, assistant to the university president for external relations; Dr. Basheer Shehadeh, assistant to the university president for follow-up & development, as well as AUST college deans and department heads. Mr. Robin Nair praised the university which he described as a beacon of higher education in the region. He explained that he had chosen to visit Ajman University to discuss avenues of mutual cooperation such as: student and faculty exchange and knowledge sharing especially in post graduate areas related to sciences and information technology.

Mr. Osama Salman stated that Ajman University currently boasts more than 42 nationalities of students, faculty and staff, and AUST would welcome adding some Fiji nationals to its list of students or faculty.

The ambassador inquired about AUST graduate and postgraduate programs and other facilities including university accommodation for local and international students. He explained that although the Fijian community in the UAE is very small, it holds however several key posts in multinational and local organizations, adding that such visit will help open more bilateral avenues of cooperation.

Mr. Robin said his country's decision to elect the UAE as the main consular representation in the Middle Eastern, is due primarily to the leadership, stability and rapid growth that has propelled the country to greater socio-economic strata.

Further meetings were planned during the visit and will include a tour of the University campus, colleges and facilities. The ambassador will also get a chance to experience first-hand the hi-end technology deployed at AUST to assist students in acquiring better contemporary knowledge and more market-oriented training and skills.
