The ‘Health Awareness Clinic' will initially take place across two primary healthcare centres- Nad Al Hammar and Al Barsha. Primary healthcare professionals will tailor-make the awareness programs as per the medical conditions of the individual. Dr Ahmad Bin Kalban, CEO of Primary Healthcare at the DHA said: “While we already have several health awareness initiatives in place, we felt it was time to provide a dedicated health education clinic to the community. We consider primary healthcare to be frontline care as it is the first stop for people with health problems, keeping this in mind, we developed our health promotion strategies. The aim of this clinic is to positively influence health behaviour of individuals and communities with an aim to enhance the quality of life of the community and reduce the burden of disease, both in human and financial terms.” He said the target audience for the clinic includes people suffering from chronic ailments such as high cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, people with high risk factors , smokers, patients seeking treatment for stress or depression as well as family members taking care of patients with a chronic disease, special needs children, elderly patients, patients suffering from strokes etc. He said the clinic will provide specialised advice for family members of elderly patients. The 360 degree health counselling session ensures family members can take care of the day-to-day needs of their elderly members. Kalban said the Nad Al Hamar primary health centre will hold health clinics every Monday and Thursday and the Al Barsha primary health centre will hold clinics every Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm.
