Dubai - Getting into sports always brings out the competitive side in all of us. The urge to push ourselves to the limit, to be the best, to conquer, to win! But for us paddler-friends in the UAE, it is more than just the challenge & the competition. We come together to support a good cause. The newly formed DUBAI MARLINS dragon boat team joins the rest of the world for the 3rd Dublin Dragon Boat Regatta on Sep.14-15, 2013 in Ireland. An event co-sponsored by Irish breast cancer survivor paddlers, the Plurabelle Paddlers. Foreign researches & studies found that a gradual programme of upper-body exercise in those treated for breast cancer can help improve movement to the area of surgery and/or radiation. And with most members of MARLINS as experienced Physical Trainers in the UAE, we value the concept of getting active, being fit and staying healthy through the paddling sports. Fitness Trainers, lifeguards, athletes, and plain sports enthusiasts composed the team, sharing the same vision of not just levelling up in this water sport but supporting and giving back in our own little ways something good to our community. “Officially launching MARLINS by gracing the recent Paddles for the Planet held last June 1,2013 was our way of supporting the idea that success, no matter which part you are in this planet, is sweet when we are together acting as one,” says Head Coach Ariel Andres. Andres added that, “these community service activities are magnified efforts of an ideal team, drawing its strength from each member who is determined to function as one. Because after all we are a one big family in this world”. MARLINS, an all expat team in the UAE is now training for Dublin to support the aim of our breast cancer survivor friends. In Dubai and to the world, we paddle not just for the sport but for a good cause.
