Director Kadija Leclere to attend the screening on 6th August 24th July 2013, Dubai, UAE: The Scene Club, Dubai's regular monthly film club showcasing some of the best world independent cinema, doesn't take a break during this Ramadan and it will be screening BAG OF FLOUR (LE SAC DE FARINE) by Belgian-‐Moroccan director Kadija Leclere on Tuesday 6th August at Dubai Knowledge Village Conference Centre. To allow for Iftar, the event will start one hour later than usual: guests are invited to arrive at 8pm to collect their pre-‐ booked tickets and for an hour of networking where they'll have the chance to meet the film director; the screening will start at 9pm. Based on a true story, this beautifully shot epic traces the life of Sarah, from her early years in Belgium through her rebellious, poverty-‐stricken teens in a village in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. It's December 1975 and 8 year-‐old Sarah, who lives in a Catholic orphanage in Alsemberg (Belgium), receives the visit of her biological father, whom she has never met. He comes to take her for a weekend in Paris, but it is in Morocco that Sarah wakes up, in a little town lost in the middle of the Atlas. Very soon her father leaves, abandoning her without any explanation. She then slips into the life of a little Moroccan girl where the only schooling she is offered is that of knitting. Nine years later Sarah, 17 years old, is a teenager like all the others. At least, almost. It's 1984 and we are in the middle of a hunger revolt (The Revolt of ‘Awbach'). Sarah's father never sent the money he said he would and for the family where she is staying each mouth to feed accounts for more and more. Sarah will have to find a way to earn her board. And then, there's Nari, that beautiful politically engaged student... But then, there is also her wish to leave, to go back to the Belgium of her childhood, the school, the books and a life that Sarah imagines free… BAG OF FLOUR marks the feature debut of Kadija Leclere, a former casting director for about a hundred films such as Indigenes and Mr Nobody. For this film she attracted an incredible cast, like the upcoming star Hafsia Herzi who stunningly plays teenager Sarah, Hiam Abbass and other luminaries. With BAG OF FLOUR Kadija Leclere wanted to talk about difference, to tell a beautiful story that unfolds within two very different cultures. She was quoted saying “I had this immense privilege to see the world through Sarah's eyes. Let me explain: I had the ‘luck' to live part of this story, to be ‘kidnapped' and ‘locked up' for two years, four months, ten days, and I am really happy to be where I am today.”. BAG OF FLOUR was selected by numerous international film festivals, including Montpellier, Brussels, Rome, Dubai, Irvine, Goteborg and Agadir. It won the prize for Best Actress (Rania Mellouli), Best Screenplay and the Jury Prize at the 39th Brussels Independent Film Festival and the Jury Prize at the 61st International Film Festival Mannheim Heidelberg (Germany).
