Dubai, UAE, 29 July 2025: The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library will organise a series of panel discussions, workshops, cultural performances, and meetings with authors in August. These events support its efforts to promote culture and knowledge. The library will launch the 'Summer Camp' program, which includes a series of interactive activities and workshops specifically designed to develop the skills of children and young adults in various fields, including technology, arts, and entrepreneurship. The program includes inspiring knowledge-based meetings in collaboration with Zahra Youth Reading Club and HAL Book Club. The program will also feature workshops organised by the Community Development Authority, covering vital topics such as 'Spreading the Culture of Volunteering' and 'Basics of Photography'. As part of its summer camp, the library will offer a series of workshops focusing on developing personal skills, public speaking, theatre, and creative writing. This enriching experience will conclude with an awards ceremony celebrating the participants' creativity and achievements. In collaboration with UAE Chess Federation, the library will offer an interactive workshop to learn the basics of chess, to empower young minds by nurturing strategic thinking and decision-making skills. Moving on to the arts under the Cinema and Theatre programme, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library will present a unique event that explores the intersection of literature and photography. The event will include a dialogue session on Michelle Ziolkowski’s novel The Boy Who Knew the Mountains, a coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of rugged mountain landscapes. This will be followed by a screening of Mountain Boy, a film inspired by the novel. Together, the discussion and film will offer a rich visual and literary experience—highlighting how written words evolve into cinematic scenes and how storytelling is brought vividly to life on screen. In cooperation with Cineolio, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library will host an exceptional evening for film lovers to enjoy a selection of international short films. This month’s Cineolio screenings will feature a selection of acclaimed international films. Highlights include the Spanish drama Classmate (2016) by Javier Marco, the Polish short Interruption (2015) by Adam Suzin, and the Egyptian documentary Sniper (2022) by Hossam Waleed, which recounts a true story rich in unexpected detail. The lineup concludes with the South Korean film Vortex by Jae-woo Jang—a compelling exploration of the human psyche, unfolding through a swirl of probing questions and powerful visual symbolism. In conjunction with the anniversary of French poet Charles Baudelaire, and as part of an exceptional poetry evening that weaves light with shadow, the library aims to commemorate one of the icons of modernist poetry. The event will feature a group of poets and enthusiasts of French literature, and will review Baudelaire’s texts in a session that transcends words to delve into the depths of his experience—rich with contradictions and beauty. It will also highlight his profound influence on modern poetry and his lasting legacy. The evening aims to create a space for cultural and linguistic exchange among attendees, and to strengthen the presence of world literature within the local cultural scene. On the occasion of Emirati Women's Day, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library will celebrate the pioneering Emirati media figure Hessa Al-Ossaily through a special discussion session, held in collaboration with the Al Owais Cultural Foundation. The session will explore the book Hessa Al-Ossaily: Mother of Emirati Media. The event will focus on the professional and humanitarian journey of this influential figure, who contributed to shaping the early media landscape in the UAE and served as a significant female voice. As part of its active global presence, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library will be participating in the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) conference, which will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, under the theme “Uniting Knowledge, Building the Future”.
