Beirut, Lebanon- January 2015. Eweev, a web agency based in Lebanon, announces today the development of a new module enabling ecommerce websites that trade with conventional currencies like US $, to accept Bitcoin payments in the Middle East. This module has been published on Drupal’s community making it accessible to 700,000 developers to quickly install on eCommerce projects in the region for free. After noticing the growth of ecommerce in the Middle East, Shopbuilder (a Drupal based automated solution to create ecommerce websites) found the need to integrate Bitcoin payments. Bitcoin is considered to be a great addition to the eCommerce industry for it is a digital currency, created and held electronically. The main importance of this new payment system is that it is decentralized, which means no one has control over it. According to Mr. Fayad, co-founder of Eweev, “Bitcoin is a currency by its own. With Yellow, merchants can easily and directly get the equivalent in the currency of their choices, which makes it quite simple and risk-free.” It is also a very affordable alternative for merchants to collect digital payments as opposed to other online payment gateways that could be quite costly. To make this integration possible, Shopbuilder partnered with Yellow (a Bitcoin payment gateway in the Middle East), to develop the module with Eweev’s technical expertise. Today every website powered by Shopbuilder has an out of the box ability to collect Bitcoins instead of dollars. To push this innovative payment solution into the eCommerce market of the region, the module was published on Drupal’s community. Drupal is a free open source CMS allowing the easy organization, management and publication of content on websites. It is maintained by a community of more than 700,000 users and developers who work constantly on updating it. Being recognized and published by the community, this module, accessible for free download, proves to be highly rated and efficient to use. On this acknowledgement, Mr. Fayad said: “It is a great push for Eweev to be declared by this big community as an official module contributor. This means that our codes meet their standards.” On an institutional level, the excitement and ambition in working on innovative project is driving the spirit of Eweev. “It is a milestone for the agency”, the co-founder said. The development and acknowledgement of this module reflects the eagerness of the agency to promote new eCommerce solutions for the Middle East reducing entry barriers for merchants.
