In partnership with Benchmark Middle East, Dubai Health Authority (DHA) as part of its ‘Stay Strong’ campaign is all set to establish a Guinness World Record in creating the largest formed light bulb circle, while showing support and raising awareness about diabetes which affects approximately 20 per cent of the population in the Emirates. With the support of various companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Merckserono, AstraZeneca, Novonordisk and Kcal Healthy fast food; DHA will attempt to light 11,000 bulbs at the Burj Park in Downtown Dubai on 25 December with Guinness World Record representatives present at the event. The event, titled ‘Celebrating the Moment’, will kick off the Dubai Against Diabetes one-year program. The ‘Stay Strong’ campaign is part of the Dubai Against Diabetes program and has been created to raise public awareness of the effects of the devastating disease that is fast becoming the greatest health challenge facing the country. ‘Stay Strong’ aims to evoke change in the mindset and lifestyle of the general public, and put Dubai on the map as the forerunner in the fight and prevention of Diabetes. As part of the first phase of the campaign, an innovative mobile phone app was launched recently, which demonstrates a competitive experience requiring motivation and persistence. UAE residents were urged to show their support to the local diabetes community by way of downloading the app, sharing their scores and spreading the Dubai Against Diabetes message - ‘Stay Strong’. The second phase of the event will involve managing to get at least 11,000 people against Diabetes through the Stay Strong App and through the event - ‘Celebrating the Moment’. Individuals who have downloaded the app will be automatically lighting one bulb in the Guinness World Record display at the Burj Park in the early evening. The aim of the event is to unify the nation against Diabetes through the Stay Strong App and campaign. Speaking about the campaign, Mohamed Hammad, Founder and Managing Director at Benchmark Middle East, FZ-LLC, said: “As a communications agency committed exclusively to healthcare, Benchmark Middle East has the highest regard for the work and achievements of the DHA, and shares its goals. We are delighted to work with the DHA in managing strategies required to spread the message of this initiative, and, ultimately, change lives. “Dubai Against Diabetes is such a worthwhile cause and we hope to target as many people as possible through our campaign. It will definitely be a great achievement if we receive the Guinness World Record title here in Dubai, but our primary focus is to spread word about this disease, to inform as many people as possible about the steps that can be taken to prevent this disease, and to let diabetics know that they are not alone.” Diabetics need know that they are not alone and that action is being taken from various organisations and individuals to prevent diabetes in the UAE. ‘Stay Strong’ will host a range of exciting activities in Burj Park on 25 December alongside the Guinness World Record attempt.
