Dubai, United Arab Emirates, December 24, 2014: The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) recently become the only organisation from the UAE to become a member of the Arab Board Health Specializations Council’s exam committee.

This is the first time, the DHA gained membership to be part of the council’s exam committee.  The Arab Board represents 22 countries and the Arab Board Specialization is a highly-recognised medical specialization.

Dr. Wadeia Karmustaji ,program director of the Family Medicine Dubai Residency Program, Primary Health Care Services Sector at the DHA, said: “This is indeed a very proud moment for us. Dubai has been paying strong emphasis on developing human resources in the medical sector and this membership reinforces our commitment in the field of continuous medical education.”

She said the DHA’s role as part of being a member is extensive and that since the last 14 years, Dubai has been recognised by the Arab Board Council for Medical Specializations as a centre for its examinations and DHA regularly hosts the Arab Board Family medicine exam.

In fact, this month 35 Emirati doctors took part in the written exam for Arab Board family medicine specialty. The next written exam will take place in May 2015.

Karsumtaji, said: “These doctors will contribute to serving the healthcare needs of the country. Family medicine is a key speciality because the DHA considers primary healthcare to be frontline healthcare and therefore family medics are the first-point-of-contact for patients unless critical care is required. Providing continuous medical education is vital to boost the flow of human resources in the health sector, which is essential for its growth and development.”
