The hospital is presently the only internationally accredited one in this field in the UAE. Dubai, United Arab Emirates, October 21, 2014: Latifa Hospital, which is the emirate’s largest maternity and pediatric hospital, recently received an international accreditation as a centre of excellence in invasive gynecological surgery. The American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopy (AAGL) recently accredited Latifa Hospital as a center of excellence in Gynecological Minimally Invasive Surgery (COEMIG). The hospital is presently the only one with this accreditation in the UAE. HE Eng. Essa Al Maidoor, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, said: “ The DHA firmly believes in the importance of seeking international accreditations which help ensure healthcare facilities are following international benchmarks. We also strongly promote a culture of continuous medical education so that our physicians are abreast with the latest in their field of healthcare. We are very proud of this accreditation.” Dr Muna Tahlak, CEO of Latifa Hospital, said: “In 2012 we launched the minimally invasive gynecological surgery ( MIGS) program at Latifa hospital so that we can become pioneers in this field. Minimally invasive surgeries lead to better patient outcomes as they are less invasive, lead to fewer complications and facilitate quicker post-surgery recovery. The hospital is becoming a pioneer in minimally invasive gynecology surgeries and we aim to further develop our expertise in this field.”
Dr Ghassan Lotfi, consultant gynecologist and MIGS Program director at Latifa Hospital, said: “As part of the MIGS program, one of the main goals was to achieve global accreditation for Latifa hospital from the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopy (AAGL) as a center of excellence in Gynecological Minimally Invasive Surgery (COEMIG). We are very proud to have realized this goal. Now, we are in the midst of developing an accredited training program in gynecological endoscopic surgery as part of a fellowship program, under the supervision and care of the program’s faculty at Latifa hospital.”
