The Sameness Project and Collegiate American School spread cheer to workers around city

300 Water for Workers volunteers hand out water and face cloths to workers in Dubai with PepsiCo donating 10,000 bottles of water to support community initiative

Dubai, 21 October 2014: In a heartening gesture that applauds the effort and spirit of numerous outdoor workers in Dubai, community volunteer project ‘Water for Workers’ distributed water and face cloths to workers across targeted neighborhoods on 18 October starting from the Collegiate American School (CAS) at Umm Suqeim 2.

This initiative is part of Innoventures Education GIVE - The Gift of Innoventures Education (GIVE) programme, which is committed to bringing our community together to provide ongoing support to specific causes identified by our students. Providing access to clean water and education are the prime objectives in our GIVE mission. GIVE has been launched as part of Innoventures Education’s 10-year celebrations that have started at all Innoventures Education schools this month.

Water for Workers is a community volunteer project set up by Dubai-based The Sameness Project. The initiative kicked off on Saturday, 18 October with PepsiCo donating 10,000 bottles of water to volunteers who will then drop this off to workers in designated areas in the city. Further, to express appreciation, The Sameness Project designed face cloths that said ‘Thank You’ in six languages.

Water for Workers is part of an ongoing initiative where volunteers of The Sameness Project team and community volunteers meet on selected Saturdays at a central location and target new areas in Dubai with water and face cloths. The aim of Water for Workers is to engage and interact with workers through handshakes, small conversations and words of appreciation.

Dr Andy Westerman, School Principal, Collegiate American School (CAS), said: “As educators, we firmly believe in imparting and encouraging social responsibility among our students and CAS is very excited to be a starting point for this wonderful initiative which has brought a smile on the faces of several outdoor workers in Dubai.

“We all know that summers in the city can be particularly harsh, and small gestures make a big difference. We can make the choice to reach out to people who toil outdoors with a simple bottle of water and a big Thank You.”
