DUBAI, 27 March, 2014: Eye-Fi, the global market leader for wireless SD memory cards, has partnered with StreamPort Media, a local distributor to release its product Mobi - a memory card that turns standard cameras into connected devices enabling photos and videos to be transferred wirelessly to a mobile device for immediate upload on social media and email - in the United Arab Emirates. “The adoption of technology in this region is quite high and there is a trend in the UAE to have connected devices,” said Reza Mehdizadeh, managing director of StreamPort Media. “We have researched and had our eye on the product for a long time. Our close relationship with UAE retail outlets tells us that Mobi will fill the gap, especially for photography enthusiasts. We look forward to working with Eye-Fi and seeing the product gain traction in the region.” Last year 63 million digital cameras were sold globally, with 20 percent of the cameras connected. Earlier this year Gartner predicted that the Internet of Things (IoT) will include 26 billion connected devices by 2020. “The UAE has a growing appetite for new and improved technology, this is our driving reason to release Mobi in the region,” said Niels van der Valk, vice president of EMEA sales and marketing at Eye-Fi. “We expect Mobi to do well in the UAE and look forward to supplying this growing market.” The product is available in retail outlets in Jumbo, Sharaf DG, Abu Dhabi Duty Free and Souq.com. StreamPort Media will be distributing products to Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon and Pakistan. Eye Fi Mobi also recently launched in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
