Unit sales of TV sets 80” and above grew by 400% in Q4 2013 compared with Q4 2012 UAE, March, 2014: The large-panel TV segment in the UAE is growing rapidly, according to industry analysts GfK. Comparing sales figures from Q4 2012 and Q4 2013, GfK found that bigger was better for consumers in the last quarter of 2013, with TV sets in the 65” and above category witnessing the most significant growth, at 396%, and TVs in the 80” and above category experiencing a four-fold increase. Commenting on the latest figures, Mr. Vinood Nair, General Manager of TV Business at Samsung Gulf Electronics said, “The rate of growth in the large-panel segment is remarkable, but it’s not surprising. Thanks to advancements in HD technology, consumers can get a cinema-style experience at home—that is, a wider field of view and a fantastic sonic experience—at home, and they can get it at more attractive prices than they could five, or even two years ago. At the same time, high-definition programming is fast becoming the standard for broadcasters, which means that programming on large-panel TVs is as crystal clear as it was always meant to be. In this kind of environment, consumers don’t have to make sacrifices to get a large, dynamic display into their homes.
