Abu Dhabi, 31 October 2013 – FORMULA ONE driver and IWC Friend of the Brand, Nico Rosberg, and CEO of IWC Schaffhausen, Georges Kern, launched the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Simulator in Abu Dhabi while enjoying conversations about the worlds of watchmaking and motorsport. The simulatorwill be open for public use at The Galleria from 31 October to 7 November 2013. IWC has been the Official Engineering Partner of MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team since the beginning of this year. THE THRILL OF RACING The Swiss luxury watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen unveiled the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Simulator along with a pop-up exhibition of IWC watches in the Great Room of The Galleria on Al Maryah Island on 31 October 2013, in a bid to commemorate its official partnership with the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team. The simulator was launched by Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen, and Nico Rosberg, FORMULA ONE driver and IWC Friend of the Brand. Speaking of the occasion, Georges Kern said: “Both IWC Schaffhausen and MERCEDESAMG PETRONAS share similar values and passions: those of engineering, performance, precision and technology. By getting the simulator and exhibition to The Galleria, we want to pay a fitting tribute to our partnership.” Coinciding with the exciting Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi,the simulator is active from 31 October to 7 November 2013. Georges Kern and Nico Rosberg shared stories about their respective fields of interest with journalists from the region. In a friendly race on the simulator, Nico set the fastest lap time while journalists had the chance to race against him. Nico Rosberg said about the partnership with IWC: “We are truly pleased to have partnered with a brand that echoes our values and commitment so deeply. I just had a go at the simulator and I have to say that it is a must try and offers a thrilling glimpse into the adrenaline rush that we drivers experience during a race.” INGENIEUR PERPETUAL CALENDAR DIGITAL DATE-MONTH TAKES POLE POSITION The exhibition is not only hosting the simulator but also the newly launched Ingenieur collection. IWC's designers and engineers took their inspiration from FORMULA ONE racing.Materials typically used in motorsport, such as titanium, carbon fibre and ceramic, are the hallmarks of a new design line in the Ingenieur watch family. The technologically demanding workmanship confirms the stellar reputation of IWC Schaffhausen as a company that has been manufacturing high-quality watches for more than 140 years. At the exhibition, visitors can view one of IWC's most valuable timepieces: the Ingenieur Perpetual CalendarDigital Date-Month with a case made of titanium aluminide and a rotor resembling the spokes on a light alloy wheel rim. The Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month is one of the most impressive and complicated mechanisms and features a leap year display, a flyback function as well as large double-digit displays for both the date and month.
