School raises AED 37, 000 to support the cause Dubai, UAE (November 7, 2013): Repton School, Dubai, the premier British curriculum school and the first boarding school in the Middle-East, initiated “Fight Like A Girl”, breast cancer awareness campaign recently. The weeklong initiative was in support of the Burjuman Pink Walkathon and all the funds will go towards spreading further breast cancer awareness and, importantly, to patient care. Fund usage is monitored by the Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department of the UAE Red Crescent. “October is recognized as breast cancer awareness month worldwide. I have taken part in the Pink Walk for the last 5 years, which then led me to initiating this campaign with the aim to spread awareness amongst the students and educate them about the disease. We managed to raise just over AED 37,000 this year, which would not have been possible without Aliazia Al Dhaheri. It is going towards the growing worldwide fight against breast cancer, which is said to be the one of the most common and preventable forms of the devastating disease, if detected early. I am glad that my school is a part of such a worthy cause.” said Arjun Dhawan, Deputy Head Boy, Repton School. ‘Pink Day' was a key part of the “Fight Like A Girl” campaign, where a series of pink-themed events like Dress-in-Pink Day and Bake-&-Smoothies Sale. A very interesting activity took place during the campaign: A Memorial Balloon Launch, featuring messages written on balloons in honour of those who have faced breast cancer. The balloons were released at 12:40pm. Last year, Repton School, Dubai raised AED 16,000 through similar activities on the school premises. Breast cancer is something that should no longer be seen as a death sentence but as something that can be fought against.
