Nearly 900-1000 additional ICU beds will be required by 2021 in the UAE to meet the growing demand for patient health care services United Arab Emirates, Dubai - 7th May, 2017: Nearly 900-1000 additional ICU beds will be required by 2021 in the UAE to meet the growing demand for patient health care services, senior officials from LINET Group announced. The announcement was made in effect to the burgeoning health care sector in the UAE, which is currently witnessing a structural shift and poised to record a strong growth of 60 per cent in next five years to Dh103 million by 2021, according to a latest research by Mena Research Partners. ICU beds are specifically designed to provide comfort and quality of sleep to hospitalised patients and cater to their other healthcare needs. This specialised medical equipment provides flexibility and relaxation to the patient. According to a study by Meticulous Research, it has been noted that the global hospital beds market is expected to reach $2357.1 million by 2021 with a CAGR of 4.7 per cent over the period of 2016 to 2021. In addition, a research by Infiniti Research stated that the global market for ICU and operating room equipment, driven by advancements and innovations, will grow at a CAGR of 7 per cent until 2020. North America has the largest market for medical beds and chairs, followed by Europe and Middle East. This is due to technological advancements, increasing awareness of diseases, increased healthcare expenditure and well developed healthcare infrastructure in these regions. “The market for ICU beds in the UAE is expected to experience high growth rate in the next few years due to the fast growing healthcare sector. In addition, the technological innovations, increasing disposable income and demand for better healthcare services are driving the growth for ICU beds in the UAE and the region,” said Mr. Jiří Plecitý, Managing Director LINET Middle East and Africa. The first ICU beds were established in the late 1950s and the specialty of critical care medicine began to develop. While the existing hospitals have become specialised facilities, clinics are also upgrading to polyclinics whereas day care surgery is upgrading to hospitals.
