theMICAM Footwear Fair sets foot in Dubai

Dubai, UAE, May 26, 2016: theMICAM, the leading international high and medium high-end footwear fair promoted by the Association of Italian Footwear Manufacturers and held twice a year in Milan, is set to land in Dubai soon, next May 25th. The event is a unique platform where the world meets footwear and where manufacturers, distributors, agents, and representatives of footwear, bags and leather accessories, total look in leather, and accessories for shoes stores converge to discover all the latest trends and fashions in the industry.

The closed door event with press and buyers in Dubai next May 25th will be graced by the presence of Lori Gooding, Senior Consultant at WGSN MINDSET, and Gianpaolo Bruno, the new Italian Trade Commissioner to the UAE, Oman and Pakistan.

The preview will be followed by ‘The Art of Walking – Shoes Stories’, an exhibit of historical shoes open to the public at The Dubai Mall – Ground Floor in front of Paris Gallery - next May 26th and 27th. On display a selection of shoes from the International Footwear Museum (Vigevano, Italy) and from the Footwear Museum “Cav. Vincenzo Andolfi” (Sant’Elpidio a Mare, Italy), that will guide visitors trough the evolution of footwear from simple functional objects to design and fashion icons.

In the UAE, growth in footwear remained strong at 4% in current value terms in 2015, reflecting the economic stability in the United Arab Emirates amidst global economic instability.

Italy has always led the way when it comes to pushing the boundaries of design and culture. Quality, creativity, craftsmanship, timeless beauty and high level of comfort are the defining symbols of Italian excellence and the key features at theMICAM,

Gianpaolo Bruno, Trade Commissioner to the UAE, Oman and Pakistan: “Italian footwear sales have risen sharply in the UAE over the past few years, reaching approximately 135.5 million euro in 2015, increasing by 7.9% versus 2014, and accounting for 7.2% of the market. Despite the current geo-political climate in the ME, the UAE continues to be a key destination for international shopping. Italian brands are highly coveted for their superior comfort and unique elegance by the residents and by the large flow of tourists coming not only from the Gulf countries, but also from Russia, China, India and the Western countries.”

The MICAM, the world's top footwear show, takes place at Fiera Milano twice a year. The 82nd edition of theMICAM, that will present the 2017 spring/summer collections, is scheduled for September 3 to 6 at Fiera Milano (Rho, Milan -Italy).
