Siemens: technology critical to managing Oman's energy sustainably

Dubai, UAE, May 19, 2016:  Siemens will be highlighting the importance of integration and grid digitalization while combining and expanding the sultanate’s centralized and distributed power generation capacities. Technologies further improving the efficiency, fuel-flexibility, and reliability of Oman’s power plants will be presented and discussed at the Oman Energy and Water Exhibition and Conference. The show runs from May 23 until 25 at the Oman International Exhibition Center. 

Siemens will have leading executives at the conference to demonstrate the key role digitalization, cost-saving technologies and grid integration will play in the future of Oman’s energy landscape. The company will also underscore its continued efforts to assist the sultanate in embracing advanced technologies in the energy sector to help mitigate the impact of lower oil prices and rising energy demand due to economy growth and industrial diversification.

Power demand in Oman is forecasted to surge over the next five years. In addition to awarded projects, by 2021, the Muscat Integrated System (MIS) will need an addition of at least 1GW, while the oil and gas sector and rural areas are also expected to have an additional power requirement of at least 1GW. Oman seeks to build a non-oil dependent economy by diversifying its revenue sources.

The Oman Energy and Water Exhibition and Conference is a platform for stakeholders to discuss challenges and opportunities in the energy and water sector in Oman. The event also gives leading professionals the chance to discuss ways of improving collaboration between the public and private sectors to realize the sultanate’s future energy plans. 

As part of the seminar program, Vice President Sales MENA, Power and Gas Division at Siemens, Gerd Deusser will give a presentation highlighting how the country can meet its medium-term requirements in the power sector to secure Oman’s energy future. Aqeel Ahmed, Manager, Digital Grid, Energy Management Division, Siemens Saudi Arabia will also be presenting at the seminar on “Integrated Grid Architecture”.

Due to the current industry landscape in Oman, companies are increasingly interested in technology that will optimize production capacity at lower costs.
