Beirut, Lebanon - October 2015. Eweev, a web design and development company in Lebanon, participated and won a contest ran by the UK Lebanon Tech Hub. The competition’s purpose was to choose the best web agency to revamp their website. Competing with the biggest agencies in Lebanon, Eweev was nominated as the best company for this project.

UK Lebanon Tech Hub is an initiative taken by Banque du Liban in collaboration with the UK government through the British embassy in Lebanon. The main purpose of this initiative is to support Lebanese entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises. The UK Lebanon Tech Hub has for mission to create a partnership between the two countries by sharing experience and knowledge to support the promising economy of Lebanon.

The UK Lebanon Tech Hub Website Revamp competition took place in September 2015, when a dozen of web agencies and individuals replied to the public invitation of the UK Lebanon Tech Hub. Everyone had one week to prepare their ideas before pitching their presentations. All the agencies participating were competing for to take the project and get a prize of 25,000$. On September 23rd, the judges announced Eweev as the winner of this competition.

On a business level, Eweev sees this prize as a reward for their hard work over the past 5 years. According to Eweev’s creative director and co-founder, Mrs. Jana Abi Akar, implementing the concept pitched for the UK Lebanon Tech Hub is a privilege: “This British-Lebanese initiative is an important activity for small and medium enterprises. We’re proud to be part of it by not simply revamping their website, but also offering their team a tool that allows them to reach their objectives.” Eweev was designated to be the winner by the unanimity of all 3 judges within the UK Lebanon Tech Hub because of the unique concept presented. The company proved to understand the need of the initiative on the users and administration level. The team proposed not only a website but an online platform connecting the different players within the Lebanese ecosystem to consume and contribute to the knowledge economy through a creative and friendly user experience. 

In addition, according to Mrs. Abi Akar, winning this competition among a dozen of other web agencies proved that Eweev has the potential to compete with big players in the field: “When pitching our concept, we were very confident. However, it was an amazing feeling when they announced Eweev as the winner. This proved that we have the right sprite and expertise to compete with well-established agencies.”

Finally, Eweev considers that this achievement will have a positive impact on the future of the agency. Mrs. Abi Akar considers the exposure received during the competition as an opportunity to show to the local and global market the capacity of this company that is actively looking to take part of similar challenging projects.
