Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), managed by Cleveland Clinic, is organising a public health talk addressing the topic of addiction at the Behavioral Sciences Pavilion (BSP) auditorium on 3 February at 6:30pm.

This health talk, titled “Addiction, psychological and social perspective”, is part of the Mental Health Awareness Program which includes a series of health talks in Arabic language every month on different topics related to mental health and social problems. The invitation is extended to the public and SKMC’s patients.

The lecture will address different topics such as different types of addiction, addiction disorder, social causes for addiction, and psychological impacts on the mental health. The talk will be given in Arabic language by Dr. Mohamad Jamal Mousa, Consultant Psychiatrist at the BSP and certified with the Arab Board in Psychiatry. After the presentation, the door will be open for the attendees’ questions and discussions in order to give them the chance to better understand and correct any confusion.

Dr. Mousa, who will be presenting this health talk, said that there are lots of people who confuse addiction with bad habits and it’s important to clarify the differences between the two. Moreover, the public needs to be acquainted with the available tools to help patients suffering from addiction.

The Mental Health Awareness Program is organized by the Behavioral Science Pavilion (BSP) of SKMC, a comprehensive psychiatric facility committed to providing mental health treatment services in the UAE. The program consists of monthly public health talks about different topics related to mental health in Arabic language. The talks are given by a panel of mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists as well as social workers from the BSP. Each session includes a question and answer session to answer the attendees’ inquiries.

SKMC is part of the SEHA Health System and is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
