Nespresso launch rarest Maragogype Grand Cru for one night only

The Art of the Coffee Experience: Nespresso perfects the tasting experience by combining a flawless Riedel-designed vessel with its first Special Reserve Grand Cru in two years 

Dubai, UAE 26th November, 2014 - Coffee benefits from being enjoyed from a perfectly designed vessel to maximize its nose and taste. Combine that with a scarce, elegant Nespresso Special Reserve Grand Cru and new heights of the coffee experience are reached. 

Nespresso has undertaken a partnership with Riedel to craft an exclusive tasting glass which elevates the coffee tasting experience. At the same time it is launching its first Special Reserve Grand Cru in two years, the refined, elegant Special Reserve Maragogype Grand Cru, from the little known coffee bean of the same name. 

On a perpetual search for the extraordinary coffee experiences that truly resonate with the senses, Nespresso coffee experts hunted down the finest available Maragogype from four different growing areas. It took a continent wide search to identify the four distinct terroirs in Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Colombia, where this rare bean could be found and that could fulfill the demanding quality standards and quantity of the unique beans needed to craft this Special Reserve Grand Cru.  
 
The Special Reserve Maragogype Grand Cru is therefore a unique blend of four different origins, roasted and ground in a specific manner so that it unfolds in layers of taste sensations. It is only this blending of the Maragogype bean - which is known for its terroir specificity - that such complexity is reached in a stark display of the depth and reach of Nespresso coffee expertise. The roasting process was designed to safeguard the delicate taste of this outsized, porous, Arabica bean. This balanced, mild cup is tempered with refined acidity; the giant, green coffee beans are roasted to just the right level that their unique attributes are enhanced and not dominated by roast. 

In spite of the unusual size of these beans, the Maragogype Grand Cru nonetheless boasts a delicate taste for those who indulge in this exclusive coffee experience, a gift of discovery and delight to Club members and coffee experts. Extremely fine in flavor, this Arabica is defined by a smooth crema with a moderate acidity. On the palate, its character unfolds with a nuance of subtly sweet, mild, round and faintly green notes, revealing its Mexican and Nicaraguan origins. These are counterbalanced by the fruit of Colombian and Guatemalan-grown varieties. Maragogype fulfils Nespresso’s promise to Club members that it will strive to surprise, delight and unfold a world of coffee experiences in the home.  

The rare nature of the coffee beans which typify Nespresso Special Reserve Grands Crus and the focus needed to create these exceptional coffees dictate that Nespresso only releases a Special Reserve Grand Cru every few years. The most recent Special Reserve Nespresso launched was the Hawaii Kona Grand Cru in 2012.

Meanwhile, in a perfect harmony, Nepresso coffee experts and master glass makers Riedel came together to craft the most advanced tasting vessel from which to maximize the Nespresso Grand Cru sensory experience. Nespresso experts intimately understand the intricate relationships between terroir and variety in selecting exceptional green coffee beans for Nespresso Grands Crus. It is Riedel experts who understand the complex role that vessel size and shape play in conveying the message of a fine blend.  Together, Nespresso and Riedel experts created two tasting glasses to carry the very essence of fine coffee terroir to the coffee connoisseur’s palate.

The Reveal Collection perfects the coffee experience by best conveying the aroma of the finest Grands Crus to the Nespresso Club member and coffee connoisseur. It serves to enhance that luxurious moment of anticipation when the coffee elixir is smelled and the promise of the rich mouth experience to come hangs on the taste buds. This tasting experience indulges all of your senses. The transparency of the tasting glass holds the delightful vision of coffee; the aromas are so specifically directed onto your palate as to satiate your nose; your touch is heightened through the elegance of the crystal and your ears awaken to the resonance of this enduring, quality material.

Nespresso has a long history in the design of cups to enhance the coffee experience. It was Nespresso research scientists who proved that the characteristic crema which tops a good coffee serves not to hold in aromas, but to carry them above the cup for the olfactory pleasure of the drinker. Therefore, vessel shape was a vital tool in perfecting the coffee experience. 

In fact all Nespresso coffee cups are deliberately designed to enhance the aromatic pleasure of the Grand Cru they hold. With this new vessel, Nespresso has taken the enhancement one step further by working with no less than 16 sommeliers in tests of the glassware in the Reveal Collection that confirm the coffee experience is taken to new levels. The Intense glass increased the overall intensity of aroma and taste and the Mild glass developed the freshness, acidity and lightness of the coffee as well as the delicacy of the aromas. It also increased the smooth and sweet perception. 

The tasting glasses in the Reveal Collection are masterpieces of proportion.  Their size, height and width have been harmonized in order to release the coffee’s aromas and elevate the tasting experience to a new level.

The Reveal Collection will be available from end of October in a set of two Intense or Mild glasses 

A Limited Edition gift box including 2 mild tasting glasses together with a sleeve of Special Reserve Maragogype Grand Cru will also be available during the festive season. 

Priced at AED 100, the Special Reserve Maragogype Grand Cru was available for one evening only on 24th November, 2014 to select Nespresso Club Members. The event took place at The Lounge, Dubai Mall, and welcomed around 150 guests.
