Dubai, United Arab Emirates, November 16, 2014: His Excellency Engineer Essa Al Maidoor, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, inspected today the Nad Al Hamar Primary Healthcare Centre. The centre, which was established in 2011, offers a host of specialties across various fields of medicine. Dr Manal Taryam, CEO of DHA Primary Healthcare Centre greeted HE Eng. Al Maidoor and provided him with an overview of the latest services introduced at the centre. HE Eng. Al Maidoor held a detailed meeting with doctors, nurses and specialities from the DHA primary healthcare fraternity. He said: “Preventive health care and screening for early disease detection and management takes place in the primary health care setting. Primary health care facilities are on the frontline of health care. Primary healthcare physicians have an opportunity to apply preventive measures and continuum of care that people need to prevent or delay the onset of chronic health conditions like diabetes. At the DHA, we consider primary healthcare to be vital for the development of the health sector and for public health and welfare. “Access to healthcare has always been an important focus for the DHA and with the introduction of the 24 hour services at Nad Al Hamar, the DHA has further improved access to primary healthcare services. We must continue to provide quality primary health care for our customers.” The DHA presently has 14 primary healthcare centres for every 30,000 individuals spread across the various geographical areas of the Emirate. In 2013, the total number of patients received by DHA primary healthcare centres were 9,04,746. Dr Taryam added that since the introduction of the 24 hour service, the Nad Al Hamar centre has seen a drastic increase in the number of patients “ From July to December 2013, we received 8303 patients and conducted 8198 procedures and from January to September 2014, we received 22,943 patients and conducted 47,981 procedures. These statistics reflect number of patient visits after the other health centres have closed. I.e. from 9:30 pm until 7:30 am on weekdays as well as weekends. The numbers highlight the demand of the 24 hours service and the wide number of people it has benefitted from this service.” She said that PHC’s provides services including outpatient family medicine, child health services, antenatal care, dental services, some specialist clinics like ENT, ophthalmology , dermatology in addition to supportive services such as pharmacy, X-ray& laboratory services. The PHCs also offer preventive screening packages at discounted rates including women’s health, men’s health, adolescent’s health, smoking cessation package, to name a few. In addition, the DHA primary healthcare sector regularly holds health education and screening programs for various diseases across its health centres.
