UAE Hospitals to receive rigorous evaluations and awards for IT adoption. Global Consortium to recognize innovations at the second annual HIMSS Integrated Health Innovations Conference. Dubai, UAE- October 16, 2014 -GCC healthcare leaders and international experts will descend on Dubai later this year to demonstrate how technology can improve healthcare in ways never imagined before at the HIMSS Middle East Integrated Health Innovations Conference 2014. The conference, which is supported by the Dubai Health Authority, will be held at the Ritz Carlton DIFC on 17 and 18 December. While healthcare systems that deliver smart services have several benefits, often the IT infrastructure required to operate these cutting-edge systems is inadequate, or simply not in place. In order to coordinate a strategic road map, the event will bring together a panel of regional leaders who will discuss what they have in place today and how government agencies can pool resources to make that quantum leap and provide the best healthcare services possible. The HIMSS Middle East Healthcare Innovations Conference 2014 will provide the right platform to bring the necessary professionals together to make smart health a reality for all regional healthcare authorities. “To support healthcare professionals in the Middle East region at this critical time in its development is very exciting. The standards being set in the GCC are truly world-class. We will bring best practice from all around the world and deliver a programme that provides healthcare professionals in the GCC with the tools to take healthcare to the next level,” said Mr. H. Stephen Lieber, CEO, HIMSS. Awards and Evaluation of UAE Hospitals For three years, hospitals from across the UAE and the GCC have been voluntarily participating in a global survey to evaluate their progress in adopting technology. This survey benchmarks hospitals on an 8 stage scale called the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). Hospitals that achieve Stage 6 and 7 will be publicly awarded and can only receive this recognition after completing an extensive questionnaire and on-site audit with international inspectors. “The survey and onsite audit looks closely at the digitization of patient health information. Once we have clinical information electronically stored, hospitals can use it to deliver dramatically better healthcare outcomes for patients. In the GCC, we are proud to document the progress of IT adoption,” added Mr. Lieber. Market research suggests that per capita health care costs can be reduced by up to 18 percent and reduce care costs for chronic conditions by up to 30 percent through electronically enabled patient care. But it is how healthcare leaders are adopting mobile solutions within their own jurisdictions that is the key to providing smart healthcare. Health Innovation Recognitions Dr. Molly Joel Coye, MD, MPH, Chief Innovation Officer, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) will deliver a keynote presentation on the second day of the conference, 18 December 2014. UCLA, in partnership with leading governments around the World, launched a Global Innovation Lab, which is a virtual showcase of the best innovations worth replicating around the Globe. Successful applicants who participate in conference innovation demonstrations on 18 December will gain the opportunity to be featured in the UCLA Global Lab and will be reviewed by governments and healthcare organizations worldwide.
