MBRF Launches Sixth Edition of ‘A Book in Minutes' Initiative

Current Cycle Translates and Summarizes Three Management and Self Development Bestsellers into Arabic

Dubai-UAE: April 21, 2014 - The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF) has launched the sixth edition of its ‘A Book in Minutes’ initiative as part of ongoing efforts to shape a sustainable knowledge environment in Dubai in line with the vision of the Dubai Government.

The initiative helps avid readers in the Arab world stay up-to-date with latest titles from publishing houses around the world. It involves translating and publishing summaries of influential and acclaimed international books in Arabic to enhance their reach among local readers. Combining authentic content with effective and appealing presentation, the synopses offer a quick-reference of the books’ overarching message in a matter of minutes.

Launched in October 2013, the first five editions of the initiative generated positive response from senior officials, intellectuals and journalists. To date, MBRF has received dozens of new reader requests from companies and institutions within the private and public sector for inclusion in the initiative’s mailing list.

In its sixth edition, ‘A Book in Minutes’ has summarized three books towards enriching the intellectual development of the youth and facilitate their career advancement. The three books include: ‘The 80/20 Principle: The Secret to Achieving More with Less’ by Richard Koch, which covers successful management styles, types of managers and employees, and ways to achieve positive results; ‘Modern Manners: Tools to Take You to the Top’ by Dorothea Johnson and Liv Tyler, and ‘Creative Confidence: Unleashing the Creative Potential Within Us All’ by Tom Kelley and David Kelley, which asserts that all human beings are creative provided their capabilities are discovered and channelized effectively.

Jamal Khalfan Bin Huwaireb, Managing Director - MBRF, said: 'In today’s era, knowledge is an integral part of any country’s development process and a key driver of economic growth. Towards this priority, MBRF seeks to grow the readership base in Dubai and the wider region through inculcating the practice of reading among our young people. This can be achieved by helping potential and regular readers overcome obstacles and ease their access to books. Facilitating public reach to information will lead to the advancement of society - intellectually, morally and scientifically.'

He added: “To date, ‘A Book in Minutes’ has translated and summarized 18 books. The initiative has received high praise from officials in the government and semi-government sectors as well as media organizations for the crisp content and simplified flow of information offered by the summaries.'

Bin Huwaireb pointed out that the Foundation, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of MBRF, is committed to creating a sustainable knowledge environment.

He said: “At MBRF it is our priority to support the vision of the UAE leadership in developing a knowledge economy and enhance literary interests. Through this endeavor, we seek to spread the messages of the most influential and beneficial self-development books through time. We are confident that our efforts will contribute to shaping the leaders of tomorrow.”

MBRF has since inception contributed on an ongoing basis to disseminating knowledge and supporting entrepreneurship in the community. The Foundation today is focused on achieving one of its main goals - of restoring the role and respect of thought leaders and intellectuals in the Arab world by creating an advanced knowledge environment that is worthy of the reputation of Dubai and the UAE.
