Innovative delivery drone showcased in museum’s ‘intelligent infrastructure’ trend section

Dubai, UAE, 13 February 2014: Hamad Musabeh and Abdulrahman Alserkal, both members of the du family, were commissioned by the Government Summit’s organizing committee, to take part in the newly-launched Museum of Future Government Services. Innovation is the lifeblood of the UAE’s smart city future, and du is proud to congratulate two of its Emirati colleagues whose innovative capabilities have earned them a place in the nation’s history.

Hamad Musabeh, Senior Director - Security Planning & Design, and Abdulrahman Alserkal, Senior Director - Operations Performance & Governance, invented a delivery drone to be showcased in the museum’s ‘intelligent infrastructure’ trend section - one of the major trends identified as influential for the future landscape of government services.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed attended pilot tests for the prototype drones on 11 February, after they were revealed during the Government Summit the day before.

“We are incredibly proud of the achievements of Hamad and Abdulrahman, who are exemplary of the innovative capabilities not only within our own du family, but within the Emirati population,” said Osman Sultan, CEO, du. “People are at the heart of the success of the Dubai Government Initiative 2021. Emirati talents, such as Hamad and Abdulrahman, have the potential to contribute to the smart future of the emirate, and we are privileged to count their expertise amongst our own.”

“When we were commissioned to be part of the Museum of Future Government Services, we were honoured to be able to contribute to such a significant step in the UAE’s smart city journey,” said Hamad/Abdulrahman. “Technology such as our delivery drone will open up the potential for government bodies to reach the people faster, more efficiently and with more convenience, in line with the smart city vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed.”

The project is Hamad and Abdulrahman’s own initiative, taking two years of hard work to complete. Each delivery drone, which is intended to deliver Emirates ID cards, is equipped with an actual mail box, and with a fingerprint scanner to ensure that only the intended recipient can retrieve the ID. Linked to a smart application, the drone simplifies the process of renewing Emirates ID cards; residents can request a renewal through an app, which forwards the request to the Emirates Identity Authority. The customer enters his address into the app, and when the card is ready, the aerial drone delivers it to his house, based on GPS coordinates. All the customer has to do is scan his fingerprint, which is preprogrammed into the system, to open the mailbox and retrieve the new Emirates ID card.
