United Arab Emirates, January 22, 2014: His Excellency Engineer Essa Al Maidoor, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority(DHA) felicitated Edward Hobart, British Consul General in Dubai and members of the consulate and, members of the Al Ameen service for their contribution towards donating blood at the Dubai Blood Donation Centre(DBDC) The DBDC is the central blood donation centre for the emirate of Dubai. It supplies blood and blood products to all private and governmental hospitals in Dubai, this includes over 30 private and government hospitals. Al Maidoor thanked the members of the British Consulate and Al Ameen Services for their contribution and called on the community to continue their efforts towards donating blood and blood products as well as organizing blood donation campaigns in collaboration with the private and government institutions to ensure adequate blood supply for those who need it. He said the DBDC blood collection amounts to 50% of the total blood collected in the UAE. In 2013, the Centre collected 42,000 units of blood, of which 42 per cent was used for Thalassemia patients and 27 per cent for Trauma patients. For 27 years, Dubai Blood Donation Center has been committed to serving the needs of their local communities by saving lives through voluntary un-paid donation. Donor Recruitment and blood collection is conducted through Blood Donation Camps in and outside the centre. The centre undertakes the responsibility of ensuring safe blood for thousands of people who receive life-saving blood transfusions every year.
