Defending Champions – Le Meridien Mina Seyahi – are one of 23 teams who have confirmed their participation in the 8th UAE National Lifeguard Championship (NLC) to be held on 15 December 2013 at Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina in Dubai. Sanctioned by the Dubai Sports Council, this one day challenge has attracted the most number of teams in its 8 year existence. Teams who have confirmed their participation are: Aquaventure A & B, KHIDMAH A & B, St Regis Saadiyat, Le Meridien Dubai, Le Royal Meridien Dubai, Le Meridien Al Aqah, Le Meridien Mina Seyahi A & B, Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex, Rotana Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Nakheel Leisure, Fairmont Dubai, The Palm A & B, Shangri La Abu Dhabi, Traders Abu Dhabi, Wild Wadi A & B, Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Yas Water World A & B. “We have had a great response from all properties that employ lifeguards with at least another 10 teams interested in next year's event” commented Event Organiser Warren van der Merwe from Super Sports Events. Patrick Antaki, Founder of the UAE NLC and General Manager of Le Meridien Al Aqah and Al Maha Desert Resort added “I am delighted with the number of teams participating. It means we are offering more and more lifeguards the opportunity to test their abilities against fellow colleagues and in that way improve their skills which will benefit the communities they serve! Although the emphasis is primarily on lifeguard participation and competition, the NLC aims to promote Water Safety Education and spread the message of water and beach safety throughout the UAE. With the existence of strong sea currents, rising beach visitors and the increase in the number of swimming pools across the country, water safety awareness is of critical importance”. This year's events will include a 4 x 1km Beach Run Relay, 200m Swim / 200m Run / 200m Swim / 200m Run, 400m Surf Swim, 120m Casualty Pick-up, 4 x 120m Swim Relay, 20m Beach Flags and 4 x 90m Beach Relay Sprints”
Coega swim wear will be supplying all teams with colour coded rash vests to compete in. Zoggs will offer swim caps to all as well while MultiPower will keep all hydrated with energy drinks and gels. Sharbatly Fruit will supply all with natural energy through a range of their fruits with post event refreshments sponsored by Barasti.
