New E-MobilityTransport Solution Launched at Gulf Traffic

MIBISI Bike Sharing system introduced by MoveUs UAE at region's foremost transport infrastructure event

Dubai, UAE, 11 December 2013: A new e-mobility solution has been officially launched in Dubai this week, aimed at offering residents and tourists an eco-friendly and healthy alternative to get about town.

The MIBISI Automatic Bicycle Rental System is a bike sharing concept offering a sustainable means of urban transportation around Dubai's popular tourist and residential areas, including mixed-use developments, resorts, parks, malls, and Dubai World Central, the venue for the World Expo 2020.

MoveUs UAE, the newly established company behind the MIBISI Bike Sharing system introduced the concept at Gulf Traffic, which opened on Monday and concludes today (11 December) at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Ahmed Abdullah Ali Ahli, General Manager of MoveUs UAE said: “MoveUs is a new company with a bold ambition to become the leading sustainability mobility operator in the Middle East.

“The MIBISI Bike Sharing system is an initiative that has been implemented successfully by our partner in Valencia, Spain and with the emerging Middle East trends to improve intermodal sustainable transport systems, now is the right time to adapt the same model to this region.”

The MIBISI Bike Sharing system works by setting up bases at different locations of up to 20 bikes each. Users would pre-register and pre-pay hourly to use the bikes before collecting and dropping off at any given base location.

Added Ahli: “It's particularly useful in areas of high tourist congestion, and would be the ideal e-mobility solution for the World Expo 2020 at Dubai World Central.  We are now in the process of registering with the Dubai Road and Transport Authority, and Abu Dhabi's Department of Transport, and look forward to participating in public tenders to install the system.”

The 67 MIBISI bike sharing bases in Valencia presently facilitates 450 bicycles, saving municipalities and residents 275,000 litres of petrol or diesel annually and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 541 tonnes.

In addition to MIBISI, MoveUs UAE has a team of consultant engineers engaged in transportation planning and traffic mobility studies.  The company plans to introduce other urban mobility solutions across the Middle East, including electric bike and car sharing systems.

Supported by Abu Dhabi Police and SAEED, Gulf Traffic brings together more than 200 exhibitors from 20 countries involved in the design, build, and maintenance of the region's road, rail, parking and public transport projects.

Now in its tenth edition, the three-day event focuses on the four key transport industry sectors including traffic infrastructure, parking, road safety, and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).  Organised by Informa Exhibitions, the region's foremost transport infrastructure event is also supported by ITS Arab, with the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) signed on as Knowledge Partner.

Gulf Traffic attracts more than 3,000 transport industry professionals and government agencies from across the Middle East. The show returns next year from 8-10 December, 2014. More information is available at www.gulftraffic.com.
