Dubai, UAE, 24 November 2013: The second meeting of the Project Management Executive Forum (PMEF) was held at du under the patronage of His Highness Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum who is the chancellor of The British University in Dubai. The Vice Chancellor Professor Abdullah AlShamsi from (BUiD) represented Sheikh Ahmed at the meeting welcoming the project Management Executives present at the forum, and explaining the importance of professional collaboration at the executive level for the advancement of Dubai and the Nation and elaborating on the theme of the forum he said, “ The British University in Dubai plays an important role in the Project Management field through its Project management Masters and PhD programmes in addition to research done in this field in collaboration with the best international research institutions. Ananda Bose - du's Chief Corporate Affairs Officer speaking ahead of the event said, “This forum is fast becoming an essential platform to synthesise project management ideas from different industries and apply them for real life solutions management such as Expo demand the highest level of PM skills and talent.” Abid Mustafa, Director Corporate Programme Management Office in du, and the Chairman of Project Management Executive Forum (PMEF), described Dubai as one big project and Expo 2020 as an important milestone in Dubai's journey towards sustainability and a knowledge based economy. The keynote speech was given by Clemens Plochl from Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence who talked about innovative ways for Dubai to reduce its carbon footprint during Expo 2020 and beyond. This was followed by a series of short talks building on different facets of Expo 2020. Inken Lasar, Director, Corporate Programme Management Office in du talked about how communication enhances synergy between connected minds and breaks down silos that inhibit project delivery. Dr Paul Gardiner, Head of Project Management Programmes at BUiD stressed the importance of managing knowledge during and after the Expo2020. Dr Zain Thaboub, VP Research and Strategy at Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) emphasised UAE's rich cultural diversity as a key enabler for the delivery of project work. The last speaker was Richard Zhu, Director of Key Accounts PMO from Huawei. He shared with the audience the project lessons learnt from Shanghai Expo 2010. This was followed by an interactive panel discussion led by Dr Zain and included in addition to some of the speakers two additional members—Les Squires a leading IPMA consultant and expert on social media platforms and Omar Muhammed, VP of Wholesale and PMO from du. Mustafa while summing up the forum meeting expressed on behalf of the panellists the desire and optimism for Dubai to win Expo 2020. He also announced that the next PMEF meeting will be hosted by Huawei in Dubai Media City, in March 2014.
