 Latest professional certification from leading IT industry association now available in the Middle East Dubai, UAE, October, 2013 – Ahead of GITEX Technology Week 2013, CompTIA, the non-profit association for the global IT industry, today launched its new professional-level skills certification for information technology (IT) workers in the Middle East that are immersed in the fast-growing environment of cloud computing. CompTIA Cloud+ certification validates the knowledge and best practices required of IT practitioners in government and corporate organizations that must understand and deliver cloud infrastructure solutions. Ahead of his presentation on cloud solutions at GITEX 2013, Todd Thibodeaux, president and chief executive officer of CompTIA, said: “Cloud computing has gained momentum across the Middle East and is fast becoming an integral part of the business IT solution for a growing number of organizations. The next stage requires not just the technology but also the availability of skilled networking and technical sales professionals to design, deploy, manage and maintain operations in this environment.” According to CompTIA's annual study, International Technology Adoption & Workforce Issues, 62 percent of executives in the Middle East are currently experimenting with or fully using cloud computing solutions within their organisation. Whilst this is ahead of the global trend, 40 percent of executives also report that a deficit of skills and experience in the region that is impacting IT strategy and the organisation's ability to innovate. “CompTIA Cloud+ was developed by the industry, for the industry, in order to address this shortfall in talent. It provides IT professionals with a certified qualification that validates their ability to efficiently and securely implement and maintain cloud technologies,” Thibodeaux continued. CompTIA Cloud+ is available online to IT professionals across the Middle East as part of the worldwide launch of the accreditation. It is the next career step for experienced network, storage, system and data center administrators and others working in environments that are increasingly adopting cloud computing and virtualization. The exam certifies that a successful candidate has the knowledge and skills required to understand standard cloud terminologies and methodologies; implement and maintain cloud technologies and infrastructures (e.g., server, network storage and virtualization technologies); and understand aspects of IT security and the use of industry best practices related to cloud implementation and the application of virtualization. Topics covered in the exam include: • Cloud concepts and models (12 percent of exam) • Virtualization (19 percent) • Infrastructure (21 percent) • Resource management (13 percent) • Security (16 percent) • Systems management (11 percent) • Business continuity in the cloud (8 percent) It is recommended (though not required) that CompTIA Cloud+ candidates have at least 24-36 months of work experience in IT networking, storage or data center administration. Additionally candidates should be CompTIA Network+ and / or CompTIA Storage+ Powered by SNIA certified; and should be familiar with major hypervision technologies for server virtualization, although vendor-specific virtualization certifications are not required.
