 United Arab Emirates, Dubai, July 16, 2013: Noor Dubai Foundation, an NGO that was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to combat blindness and visual disability has started its activities to mark “Emirati humanitarian work day,” an annual event held in memory of the founding father of the UAE late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Ramadan 19 named as “Emirati humanitarian work day,” is an annual event in memory of the late Shaikh Zayed and aims to inculcate the spirit of giving and philanthropy. Dr Manal Taryam, CEO of Noor Dubai Foundation said: “Noor Dubai has started its free screening program which began on the 14th of July and will continue until the 28th of this month- which is the 19th day of Ramadan. The screening program was recently held at the DHA headquarters and today it was held at Emirates National Bank of Dubai ( ENBD) The free screening was held for staff members and visitors and included screening for diabetic eye disease.” She said the next screening program will take place across RTA where bus and taxi drivers will be screened and will receive advice on how to take care of their eyes. She added that the foundation will distribute a free self eye-test kit, so that they can screen their eyes at home every three months. “This is extremely important for diabetic patients and through this screening program we will emphasize on the importance of regular eye screenings.” She said the foundation will also hold an eye screening at the Dubai Islamic Bank and finally the foundation will conclude this initiative by screening labourers who visit the Al Muhaisnah Medical Fitness Centre.
