Concerts and music workshops by renowned European artists on 16 and 17 December Sharjah, 10 December 2016: The rapid evolution of Sharjah’s Flag island into a prolific hub for cultural activities is turning out to be a treat for art lovers in the UAE. With great weather making its way back to the UAE, they have announced a two-day cultural fiesta from 16 to 17 December. Day 1 will begin with a lively drums and vocals workshop, ‘Music, Ritual & Fun’ conducted by the Polish duo, Iza Kowalewska and Ryszard Bazarnik, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. The workshop will use music therapy to channelise rhythm and song for creating positive energies among participants, who will learn mutual harmony and perform as one orchestra. After the workshop, the programme will commence with an opening act by Portuguese composer Carlos Guedes, holder of PhD (2005) and MA (1996) in composition from NYU and he’s currently Associate Arts Professor of Music at New York University Abu Dhabi, accompanied by saxophonist and clarinetist Emil Sein. This will be followed by ‘The Voice’ - at 8pm, a concert by Kowalewska renowned for her mature and nuanced vocal talent. This cultural fiesta will continue on Saturday, 17 December, as the whole Island will be consumed by an open-to-public fun artistic workshop by Guedes, which will focus on building musical instruments out of recycled materials, the ability of a variety of junk materials to create sound will be tested and manipulated. “With more than 80% of the UAE’s population characterised by residents hailing from all over the world, we are one of the most culturally diverse nations in the world. The Polish population in the UAE is the highest in the Arab world, and through this concert, we want to send out a message of our belief in promoting international solidarity by celebrating global cultures, and simultaneously developing the Flag Island as a central venue hosting artistic and literary events in the region,” said Giuseppe Moscatello, Manager of Flag Island. The international Pop Star Iza began her career in 2002 as one of the founding members of the band, ‘Muzykoterapia’ or ‘Music Therapy’. She began recording solo albums from 2013, releasing her third solo album was launched in January this year. An artist of myriad talent, Iza is the co-creator of ‘Koncert na Ścianie’ or ‘Concert on the Wall’, a work of art involving music, alpinism and architecture that defies all laws of gravity. The show has travelled to different countries in the world, this will be its first time to showcase in the UAE. The entry to the concert and both workshops are free, and is open to general public.
