Concludes with 86 Finalists in 8 Categories Dubai, December 19, 2015: The finals of the Fazza Championship for Falconry - Telwah (Faroukh - younger falcons) in the Sheikhs and General Public categories were held yesterday, 17th December in Ruwyya area. The tournaments, held annually under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, and organized by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center (HHC), have come to a spectacular close yesterday as large crowds gathered to watch falconers get into tough competition. Attended by H.E. Abdullah Hamdan bin Dalmook, CEO of HHC, Ms. Souad Ibrahim Darwish, Director of Championships at HHC, and a large number of amateur falconers, guests and officials, the 86 contestants took their turn in the 8 categories - 4 for the Sheikhs and 4 for the General public. Souad Ibrahim Darwish, Director of Championships at HHC, thanked all participants for their commitment and for demonstrating great skill in falconry.
“Since the its inception in year 2002, the falconry championships have gained the support of His Highness The Crown Prince of Dubai. And today, we are pleased to have reached this level in managing these unique championships “In alignment with Dubai as a smart city, we have applied the smart technology in timekeeping, monitoring, registering the falconers and more. As a result, we are proud that such smart applications were used for the purpose of preserving UAE’s intangible heritage”, said Souad Ibrahim Darwish. The victorious falconers celebrated their win in the championship tent that was designed this year with a larger space and much more facilities in Ruwwya.
Top prizes which include luxury cars will be awarded to winners at the end of the season in a special ceremony. Looking ahead, HHC this season will host more heritage-based championships in falconry, diving, shooting, Saluki (greyhound), Youlah and The Fazza Championships for People with Disability.
