Dubai, United Arab Emirates, December 10, 2015: Hospitals in Dubai that have implemented best practices in electronic implementation of medical records were awarded at a ceremony that was held today at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Centre in Dubai Healthcare City. His Excellency Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority presented the awards and congratulated the winners on achieving efficiency in moving towards a paperless system. The award ceremony was part of the activities of the UAE@Health week that is organized by Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Middle East and supported by DHA, Ministry of Health, Abu Dhabi Health Services Co.(SEHA), Dubai Healthcare City and Emirates Health Informatics Society. Hospitals were awarded based their EMRAM score. EMRAM is accepted today world-wide as an international benchmark to stage hospital’s electronic efforts. The model uses a 0-7 stage scale to rate hospitals based on the extent to which they have adopted a paperless, digital system. Stage 7 means the hospital is a paperless and digital hospital. Al Qatami, said: “While healthcare facilities are recognizing the importance of moving towards a paperless system, it is important that they understand the efficiency and effectiveness of the system they adopt so that they can truly provide the most useful electronic system which empowers both the organization and patients. EMRAM is a benchmarking tool that helps organizations see where they stand and how effectively they have adopted electronic medical records. Benchmarking electronic efficiency is in line with Smart Dubai Initiative that was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai . The aim of the initiative is to provide happiness to those living in Dubai and smart healthcare is an important tool to achieve this.” Al Qatami added that benchmarking electronic efficiencies in the health sector will also help provide a boost to the national unified medical records project which is led by the Ministry of Health in the UAE. Dr. Mohammad Al Redha, director of health data and information analysis department at the DHA stated that EMRAM is a global benchmark that aligns not only with the Dubai's domestic mandate to be smart and paper-free city, but also with its global ambitions. Al Redha added that the DHA is pleased to see the increase in the number of hospitals that are on track with their automation plans towards a paperless environment and that there has been a big leap in the number of hospitals that have achieved digitization since the implementation of the EMRAM project in 2011. Al Redha added that the DHA provides complete support to all hospitals that need any kind of assistance in their mission to move towards a paperless environment. Jeremy Bonfini, Executive Vice President, Global Services at HiMSS said: “ We are pleased to see the improvement of the EMRAM score among hospitals in the UAE. Today 13 hospitals in the UAE have achieved stage 6 score and are on the path to progress in the field of hospital digitization.
