When the shroud of winter finally lifts, Danes can’t help but be drawn outdoors. They say, “ Vi skal ud I det grønne” which means, “we’re going out in the green.” Green—in its infinite shades—signals summer’s arrival: long days of sun and sky, idle afternoons under the canopies of beech trees, evenings with friends that slowly dissolve into night. The anticipation of this season—its sweetness and warmth—is what helps Danes manage through the remaining half of the year.
With this collection, our goal is to extend the brightness of Denmark’s summer far beyond the country’s borders HAVEN In Danish, the word “haven” means garden. And, green appears triumphantly in the Danish landscape come May and June: budding leaves, blades of grass, fields of clover. It’s a color that’s at once energizing and calming. The deep sage hue of Skagen’s watch dials and leather wraparound bracelets serves as a reminder of the summer season’s sense of optimism and opportunity. SAND DUNES On the Danish shoreline, the wild grasses move with the wind, tracing the border of where land meets sea. The juxtaposition of green and tan inspired a number of Skagen pieces, visible in deep sage-colored watch faces, light-reflecting seaglass, sand-colored leather bands and gold accents.
