The symposium known as Emergency Surgery and Trauma Symposium (REST) was attended by 200 medical residents from the UAE and GCC region. Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 24 May, 2015: The Medical Education Department of the Dubai Health Authority recently organised a symposium on emergency medicine and surgery to update medical residents with the latest in the field. The symposium was inaugurated by Dr Alya Saif Al Mazrouei, CEO of Rashid Hospital and the program was supervised by Dr Faisal Badri, head of general surgery at Rashid Hospital and Dr Victor Mikhaeel Butros, consultant and head of emergency department at Rashid Hospital’s Trauma Centre. The aim of the program was to provide residents with an up-to-date review of the most recent, clinically relevant, developments in research, therapy, and management of emergency patients and patients who need surgery. Such symposiums provide state-of-the-art update to help health care professionals keep pace with rapid changes in the knowledge base, advances in technology, and updated guidelines for management of the patient, which helps optimize patient care. The symposium took place for a day and residents received 5.2 CME points for attending the symposium.
