Of the 1.7 million tests conducted, 828,898 were for new visas and 869,242 tests were for renewal of visas. Dubai, United Arab Emirates, February 2, 2015: Almost 1.7 million medical fitness procedures were conducted by the Dubai Health Authority’s Medical Fitness Department, said a top health official. Dr Ahmad Bin Kalban, CEO of Hospital Services Sector at the DHA, said: “ The medical fitness department at the DHA conducted a total of 1,698,140 tests of which 828,898 were for issuance of new visas and remaining 869,242 tests were for renewal of visas.” Medical Fitness is a mandatory requirement for all expats in the UAE. It is required for a residency, employment or education visa. The DHA has 16 medical fitness centres located across different parts of the emirate for issuance and renewal of medical fitness tests. Bin Kalban added that 78,640 people opted for the 24 hour medical fitness test, 359045 people opted for the 48 hour test and 85,571 selected the VIP option. He said that the DHA is continuing to expand its medical fitness centres across different geographical areas of Dubai. “Presently DHA has 16 medical fitness centres. By early 2015, we will establish one occupational screening centre in Uptown Mirdiff. This screening is needed for those people who wish to get a certification according to the requirement of their profession. This includes Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) drivers, civil defence professionals, food handlers etc. “We will also establish one new screening centre in Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT) that will provide both medical fitness and occupational screening services and we will also establish a new medical fitness centre in Hatta. The fourth medical fitness centre will be located in Business Village and be a dedicated VIP medical fitness centre. We will also carry out enhancement projects in some of the existing locations.”
