DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, November 12 2015 - A high-level GCC conference about the potential benefits of Big Data for the region’s public sector will be held at Dubai’s Address Marina Hotel from March 8-10, 2015. The GCC BIG DATA & ANALYTICS SUMMIT will highlight the extensive big data innovations now making an impact on Middle Eastern government agencies, transport authorities, banks, telcos, oil & gas producers, industries and retailers - plus large to small enterprises from all over the region. The event will bring together regional and international experts who will analyse how big data is predicting and delivering better services - while improving quality, productivity, benefits and speed of decision making to the community. “Big Data can be defined, very simply, as ‘profiting from data that was previously ignored, because of technology limitations,’” says Kumar Ramanujam, Director of Conferences for the Summit’s organisers TMC of Dubai.
“Essentially we’ll be talking about data sets so large and complex that they are difficult to process using traditional database management tools or applications. The capture and storage of the data is one thing: the analysis and exploitation is quite another!' Given the potential rewards in terms of efficiency and/or monetization, participants will include major international suppliers of software and hardware - as well as multinationals who are already putting Big Data to work for their GCC clients. The GCC BIG DATA SUMMIT’s Advisory Board already includes senior representatives of Microsoft, SAP, Injazat Data Systems, DU Telecoms, Halliburton, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and Gulf Air. GCC nations are at a pivotal stage with regard to Big Data infrastructure build and business analytics investments. Hence the announcement of this much needed Summit. Middle Eastern Governments are currently pioneering the use of business intelligence and technology to better serve citizens - none more so than authorities across the UAE. The years 2015 - 2017 will see major decisions made on investments in Big Data concepts throughout public and private sector GCC organisations, according to the Summit’s Advisory Board. ‘Learning from the Early Movers: Google, Apple, Amazon…’ Advisory Board member Dr Dirk Jungnickel, Senior VP of Business Analytics at DU (Emirates Integrated Telecommunications), said: “ I see a huge difference between what is important today for Google, Apple, Amazon and the like, and Middle East newcomers. “Google and co have the advantage of many years’ experience in Big Data, and have harvested nearly all 'low hanging (BD analytics) fruits’, so they can quietly explore unknown and unexpected data correlations,” he emphasised. “Contrast this with the smart followers one will find in our region, embarking only now on this important journey.” Dr Jungnickel concluded: “I believe that a broader audience (including me) would like to learn what steps one should take on such a journey to develop the necessary skills and capabilities - while also learning from the early movers which short-cuts might be possible.”
