Abu Dhabi, 14th October 2014: Deerfields Town Square Shopping Centre, the community mall in Al Bahia, will provide free medical information and awareness on October 18th to mall patrons and UAE residents. The drive is held towards greater breast cancer consciousness, in collaboration with Burjeel Medical Centre. “Most cancers are discovered in the second and later stages,” says Dr. Nabil Debouni, Medical Director and Consultant - General Surgery at Abu Dhabi’s Burjeel Hospital. “This can be changed if women start becoming more proactive about their health. If detected at stage 1, survival rate is between 95 to 100 percent,” he optimistically adds. “But chances of survival reduce to 86 percent if detected at stage 2, and only 57 percent at stage 3.” Deerfields and Burjeel seek to emphasize that prevention is better than cure with regular examination. A medical camp will be set-up at the mall’s garden level, where doctors, medical staff and volunteers will guide visitors on proper awareness and spread the message. Men, too, are encouraged to avail of the free checkup as 1 in 100 men are affected by breast cancer. “Breast Cancer Awareness Month gives us a chance to support our community towards greater understanding of this disease and how to counter it towards preventive measures and healthy lifestyle,” says Bruce von Kaufmann, Deerfields Townsquare Mall Manager. The Deerfields Townsquare Breast Cancer Awareness Screenings takes place in the Garden level on October 18 from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/DeerfieldsTownsquareShoppingCentre
