From Wooden Box to Curve: the Next Generation of Design

Television is still the most-used electronic medium despite competition from smartphones, tablets and computers

Decades after it burst into the mainstream, the television is still the most-used electronic medium - despite stiff competition from smartphones, tablets and computers. A far cry from the original wooden sets with postcard-sized screens, or the metal beasts of the 80s and 90s, the curved design of the newest flat-screen televisions will continue to ensure television’s dominance in household entertainment.

The advent of color television in the 1960s was a huge milestone, followed by the birth of high-definition HDTV technology, which created an even more lifelike picture. The newest phase of viewing innovation is ultra-high-definition (UHD), which delivers four times as much detail as a standard HDTV: its whopping eight million pixels will generate a clearer, smoother, more detailed image than ever before.

To get the best out of the fantastic UHD content and to enhance the viewing experience, the innovative Curved TV from Samsung, the first of its kind, is the latest minimalist marvel of the industry, providing a more immersive optical experience to the viewer. The combination of cutting-edge hardware, state of the art design and top-quality content raises the bar for television viewing to unprecedented heights.

Samsung’s Curved UHD TV’s ultra-thin bezel and curved aluminum stand are also designed with minimalism in mind, reducing visual interference with the picture and providing the illusion of a soft, floating screen. These design features render the television pleasing to the eye even at the largest size.

Samsung’s newly launched 105-inch screen is the world’s biggest UHD curved TV. The team behind the creation carried out exhaustive research on consumers’ living conditions and even studied the human eye. The design team concluded that the ergonomic curve of a 4200mm radius would present the perfect viewing condition. This subtle curve puts every corner of the screen at the same distance from the eye, providing a more immersive optical experience to the viewer.

“Samsung is proud to have delivered the curved UHD TV, an industry first, to customers across the region. Designed to optimize the viewing experience, Samsung has dedicated considerable resources to fine tune the revolutionary curve that we have incorporated in the design of our latest TV. We are confident the immersive viewing experience it delivers will mesmerize,” commented Vinod Nair, general manager of TVs at Samsung Gulf Electronics.

The UHD Curved Television is the newest member of the Samsung Smart TV family. This range is tailored to fit the needs of viewers who want the best viewing experience, combined with all the capabilities that internet connectivity brings.

Informa predicts that by 2017, there will be 800 million smart TVs in homes worldwide. Considering the era of dazzling content this sweeping expansion in technology is guaranteed to usher in, the only question you should be asking yourself is, “What size should my Curved UHD TV be?”

Samsung’s Curved UHD TV line-up is available in 105-, 78-, 65- and 55-inches, and for those looking for more traditional TV-based entertainment, Samsung Apps, the world’s first TV app store, opens up a world of possibilities. It offers a range of engaging applications accessible right on the screen, from games to news channels and educational apps for children of all ages.
