More TVs in the UAE now in UHD

UHD TVs make up 40% of large screen TVs, Samsung reports

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates—August 23, 2014—UHD TV sales are catching up with other resolutions in the UAE, Samsung reveals. According to new sales figures from the tech giant, UHD TVs make up 40 percent of its large screen sales, signaling a mass move toward better image quality on larger displays.

Screens of 55” or more have been entering homes in the UAE at break-neck speed since 2013, when market research firm Gfk reported 459 percent year-to-date growth in value and 978 percent year-to date growth in quantity for Samsung screens 65” and above. The 80” and above category also took a big leap, growing four-fold between 2012 and 2013.

The rapid rise in UHD TVs is a mark of 2014, however, and comes with the launch of Samsung’s Curved UHD and UHD TVs in the Gulf region.

“When we introduced our new UHD TVs to the region, we hoped that our attention to picture quality and usability would catch the eyes of consumers in the UAE,” said Vinod Nair, General Manager of TVs at Samsung Gulf Electronics. “Shoppers in this country are always among the first to try on new releases, but we did not anticipate this level of growth. As Samsung continues to push the envelope on performance, we expect that even more consumers will see the attraction of ultra-high definition.”

In April, Samsung unveiled its Curved UHD and UHD TV lineups in the UAE, delivering an immersive, cinematic experience to homes across the country. Designed with Samsung’s patented Auto Depth Enhancer and Pur Color Technology, the Samsung UHD TV range displays images in striking color and remarkable detail. The 2014 lineup is also endowed with smart technology, allowing users to split screens and populate them with broadcast, web content, news and video without compromising quality or space.

Samsung even provides regional content on its UHD lineup the SHAHID Application, the region’s most popular service for video-on-demand.
