Dubai, August 2014: Eight top Nando’s employees, fondly known as ‘Nandocas,’ battled it out this week for the top two places in the country to represent the UAE at the annual ‘Art of Grilling’ competition, which will be held in London, UK in October this year. The competition saw eight finalists take to the grill, cooking a whole, fresh chicken to perfection before serving it to a panel of guest judges, including Channel 4 Radio host, Eve Jaso, Ahlan! Gourmet Editor, Jasmine Bandali and Skyview Hotel Chef, Francisco Pereira. The judges were asked to rate the meat according to presentation, texture, juiciness and overall flavour with three winners being chosen according to a point ranking. The winner of this year’s ‘Art of Grilling’ competition is hard working, well- respected and fun loving Nandoca, Christian Coma, of the Philippines, while pint-sized, female powerhouse, Mharicar Pimental, also originally from the Philippines, took second place. Both winners are from the Greens restaurant. Bangladeshi national, Abu Moosa from the Arabian Center restaurant, swooped in to take third place. Both Christian and Mharicar will compete in this year’s International Grillers Challenge where Nandocas from around the world will face one another to be named the Master Griller. Nandocas will also be treated to a fantastic array of events while in the host city, London, including a special gala dinner and a fun-filled tour of the cultural city. The ‘Art of Grilling’ competition is an annual event and not only ensures that Nando’s outlets around the country are serving consistently high quality, perfectly cooked food, but is also just one of many internal activities that Nando’s puts on to motivate and show appreciation to its worthy staff.
