Applications are open for a Master's Degree, offered by LUISS University Business School in collaboration with Oracle, which will train specialist professionals in Big Data analytics. The course will last twelve months and will be held at the LUISS Business School in Rome, Italy. News Summary: The LUISS University Business School study program offers young graduates an important opportunity to specialize in subjects that will become crucial for businesses in the near future. Big Data is a technological phenomenon that will significantly influence the evolution of a variety of industries, both public and private sector. However, businesses and public bodies are increasingly aware that extracting real value from the enormous quantity of data available today requires not just the right technology tools but also the right skills. As a result, there is a growing demand for professionals who combine knowledge of statistics, IT and economics with an integrated business vision. More and more companies, both public and private, are convinced of the relevance of Big Data to their operations and are changing their business models to derive competitive advantage from it. To make resources specialized in this area available to the labor market, the LUISS Business School is now offering a Master’s in Big Data Analytics, starting in November 2014. The course will be taught in collaboration with Oracle, world leader in data management and analysis, who will enhance the curriculum by contributing their own experts and technologies. News Facts: • The LUISS Business School, LUISS University’s postgraduate school of management and Oracle are launching a Master’s Degree in Big Data Analytics, to be taught in English, with the aim of training professionals specialized in analyzing the enormous amounts of data available today to companies and public authorities. The Master’s course is a twelve-month programme, and will be held at the university campus in Rome, starting in November 2014. • Taught by LUISS Business School professors and Oracle experts in Big Data, the course will focus on three core topics - Business Process Analytics, Methods and Technologies. The objective is to provide students with a solid theoretical grounding and practical expertise in informatics, statistics and management, to enable them to fully respond to the needs of the many organizations now seeking specialists in data analysis. These Data Scientists will be called on to support organizations to take advantage of specific opportunities or solve specific problems by deriving insights from Big Data that can help guide business strategy and action. In order to do so, these professionals must be able to select potentially useful data sources, correctly interpret the data (with the aid of advanced graphical displays) and turn it into information that can help management make appropriate decisions. • In addition to making its experts available, Oracle will also contribute its technologies to the Master’s. During the course, students will be able to develop their practical knowledge of Advanced Analytics and Big Data Management solutions and technologies, including Oracle Big Data Appliance, Hadoop, Oracle Database, Oracle Data Integrator, Oracle Endeca Information Discovery and Oracle Essbase. • The final step in the study program will be fieldwork: a project to be realized with a company (a number of organizations will be involved by agreement with the LUISS Business School); a business plan to be developed with the support of the School’s lecturers; or a research project focused on a specific issue. • The Master’s Degree course is open to a maximum of 25 students, who must have a primary degree in Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics and must be able to demonstrate basic computer programming skills. • More information on the Master’s can be found at http://www.lbs.luiss.it/mabda • Four scholarships will be offered that will partially cover course tuition fees: these will be assigned on the basis of merit.
