THE ORIGINS OF ROGER&GALLET We can trace the origins of Roger&Gallet back to 1693 in Santa Maria Maggiore, Italy, with the creation of the Aqua Mirabilis by Gian-Paolo Feminis, a visionary young apothecary distiller who invented a distillation of medicinal plants with astonishing therapeutic properties for the skin, body and mind. The “Aqua Mirabilis”, literally translated as Admirable water, was patented few years later by the Cologne Faculty of Medicine in Germany. A century later, Jean Marie Farina, a distiller based in Cologne, Germany, inherited the secret apothecary formula of Aqua Mirabilis and decided to develop the business of this fantastic product. In 1806, he moves to Paris and opens his first boutique in the famous street Rue St-Honoré. As he was originated from Cologne, he changed the name of Aqua Mirabilis to “Eau de Cologne”. Universally acclaimed, his Eau de Cologne became an essential item at all the European Courts. One of its most famous ambassadors was Napoleon the 1st. Napoleon was really addict to the freshness and wellbeing benefits of this fragrance and a special bottle was designed for him to slide into his boots. Napoleon used to order more than 60 bottles each month! The history of Roger&Gallet as the perfumer house begins in April 1862, when Armand Roger & Charles Gallet (two brothers-in-law married to the 2 sisters, successors of Jean Marie Farina) decide to combine their names and passion for fragrance to create the Roger&Gallet house of perfumes. By 1864, they were already suppliers to Napoleon III, the queen of Belgium Marie-Henriette and Queen Victoria and began to export all over the world. This heralded the start of a continuously reinvented range of fragranced creations – toilet vinegars, salts, pomades, soaps, lotions, toothpastes, brillantines, oils and fresh fragrant waters – to add a touch of luxury to the everyday lives of followers of a sophisticated art of living. In 1890, they opened their first store on 38 rue d'Hauteville Paris 10th District. Parisians flocked to the highly decorated store that had opened on the ground floor of the new headquarters. In 1932, la Boutique du Bonheur opened. People came from all over the world to savour the happy experience in the luxury store at 32, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Among its clients, Marilyn Monroe, Ingrid Bergman, Catherine Deneuve, Bernard Buffet and La Callas signed the visitors' book... AN APOTHECARY AND PIONEER Renowned as an expert in wellbeing through fragrance, Roger&Gallet continuously reinvents perfumed rituals, drawing on its expertise in aromachology; science that studies how what we smell influences our behaviour and mood, and setting standards in modern cosmetics. From textures and fragrances to ingredients, bottles, illustrations, make-up and care products, Roger&Gallet's creativity and expertise is all encompassing. A TRAIL-BLAZER IN DESIGN Love of Art... Producing good products in line with the requirements of Armand Roger and Charles Gallet was not enough, these creations also needed to look good. This love of art resulted in the company entering partnerships with the greatest artists of the day. Built around the Art of Fragrance, the Art of Toiletry and the Art of Body Care, Roger&Gallet's history can also be traced through its artistic partnerships. The greatest names, René Lalique, Baccarat, Louis Chalon, Alfons Mucha and Martin Szekely, designed some magnificent bottles, luxury boxes and illustrated advertisements, reflecting the artistic sensitivities of each age. A LEGENDARY SOAP Invented by Roger&Gallet in 1879, round soap displaced rectangular pieces of soap cut by hand. Made from the very finest raw ingredients and natural essences, Roger&Gallet's perfumed soap is produced using the traditional “cauldron” method. It takes more than 80 hours to produce a Roger&Gallet soap. The entire process is designed to ensure its exceptional quality, right through to the last pinch of salt by the Master Soap Maker! The fact that the soap is perfumed to the “heart” ensures that its fragrance lasts to the very end. Bearing the brand's seal, delicately wrapped in “sun-shaped” pleated silk paper, this soap is known all over the world for its gentleness, long life and authentic fragrance. THE EXPERIENCE OF CLEANSING To give a touch of refinement and pleasure to this personal ritual, Roger&Gallet invites you to savor with delight the creamy and enveloping texture of a shower gel or the luxurious and delicate sensation of a perfumed soap. They will leave your skin supple, divinely soft and delicately perfumed. Their fragrances infuse you with a dose of well-being to raise your spirits from the moment you get up! THE EXPERIENCE OF BODY CARE Body milks or creams, the first contact with the skin is infinitely sensual. Delicately perfumed, creamy textures that feel generous to the touch mark the start of a well-being ritual designed to create a perfect fusion of the senses. And, to be kind to even the most sensitive skin, we use natural active ingredients to bring you more beautiful skin every day.
